Développement

Interstellar est initialement développé à partir demai 2006  chez DreamWorks sur un sujet de l'astrophysicien du Caltech Kip Thorne^[13]. Steven Spielberg, qui doit réaliser le projet, engage le scénariste Jonathan Nolan l'année suivante^[14]. Finalement, le projet fut abandonné par Steven Spielberg mais est repris six ans plus tard par Christopher Nolan qui annonce le film fin 2012. Jonathan Nolan, son frère, reste le scénariste mais doit fusionner son scénario avec son idée. Bien que Warner Bros (qui est en collaboration avec la société de Nolan Syncopy Films) et Paramount soient traditionnellement rivaux, Nolan demande à cette dernière de participer ; les deux sociétés acceptent de collaborer. En 2013, des sources ont indiqué que Legendary Pictures est en train de finaliser un accord avec Warner Bros. Bien qu'il n'ait pas réussi à renouveler son partenariat de production de huit ans avec Warner Bros, Legendary Pictures aurait accepté de renoncer à un financement pour Man of Steel en échange de la participation dans Interstellar.

Influences

Le film est basé sur les travaux du physicien américain Kip Thorne, qui a assuré une vraisemblance scientifique lors de l'écriture du scénario et de la modélisation des effets spéciaux^[13].

Christopher Nolan a avoué avoir réalisé ce film dans le but de rendre hommage aux films de science-fiction qu'il regardait quand il était petit. C'est pourquoi le film possède des similitudes scénaristiques et esthétiques avec des films tels que 2001, l'Odyssée de l'espace, Star Wars, Solaris,(chiant à mourir) Le Trou noir, (Nul à chier)

Auditions

En avril 2013, Matthew McConaughey et Anne Hathaway ont été annoncés dans les rôles principaux du film. L'acteur Irrfan Khan a dit qu'il devait refuser le rôle car il voulait être en Inde pour le film The Lunchbox. L'acteur Matt Damon a été ajouté à la fin août 2013 pour jouer un rôle secondaire mais crucial dans l'intrigue, en Islande.

Tournage

Le tournage commence le 6 août 2013  dans la province canadienne de l'Alberta^[15]. Au Canada l'équipe a tourné dans les villes de Nanton, Longview, Lethbridge et Okotoks, notamment au stade Seaman et au Old Town Plaza. Le tournage au Canada s'est terminé le 9 septembre 2013

Il a ensuite eu lieu en Islande pendant deux semaines à Snæfellsjökull et Klaustur. Une foule d'environ 350 personnes a été réunie dont 150 locaux pour les scènes en Islande. Enfin, l'équipe a déménagé à Los Angeles pendant 54 jours. Les lieux de tournage comprennent l'autoroute, le Westin Bonaventure Hotel, le Los Angeles Convention Center, le quartier de Culver City et une résidence privée à Altadena.

Interstellar

 est un film de science-fiction britannico-américain produit, écrit et réalisé par Christopher Nolan, et sorti le 5 novembre 2014. Il met en scène Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine et Casey Affleck.Projet revenant initialement à Steven Spielberg en 2006, il est repris par Christopher Nolan en 2012.

Alors que la Terre se meurt, des astronautes sont envoyés dans une galaxie lointaine, par l’intermédiaire d’un trou de ver, pour trouver une nouvelle planète où pourrait habiter l’humanité. Le film comprend un voyage vers Saturne, puis l’exploration de diverses exoplanètes.

Le tournage a eu lieu au Canada^[2], en Islande (pour les scènes se déroulant sur les planètes étrangères) puis à Los Angeles.

Basé sur les travaux du physicien américain Kip Thorne, qui est aussi le producteur exécutif du long métrage, le film est d’une très grande vraisemblance scientifique, tant dans le scénario que dans les effets visuels et sonores. Le long métrage fait apparaître un trou noir scientifiquement réaliste, et illustre des théories scientifiques, telles que la relativité générale d’Albert Einstein (entraînant une dilatation du temps)^[3].

Neuvième long métrage de Christopher Nolan, sorti 4 ans après Inception et 2 ans après The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar est globalement un succès, avec près de 675 millions de dollars 19 semaines après sa sortie^[4]. Il reçoit l'Oscar 2015 des meilleurs effets visuels, après avoir été nommé à 4 Oscars dont celui des meilleurs décors et de la meilleure musique, laquelle est l’œuvre d'Hans Zimmer.

Notre avis : Après avoir tourné un certain nombre de comédies insignifiantes et un polar honnête, Denys de La Patellière souhaite en ce début des années 60 évoquer l’absurdité d’une guerre qui a emporté certains membres de sa famille. Il réunit ainsi le scénariste René Havard et le dialoguiste Michel Audiard pour construire une histoire se déroulant durant la campagne de 1942 en Libye et mettant en scène un groupe de soldats perdus dans le désert. Avec l’aide de Michel Audiard, le scénario se dote d’un ton ironique qui transforme progressivement le film en une comédie féroce sur l’imbécilité de tout conflit armé. Sublimé par des dialogues savoureux (« à la guerre, on devrait toujours tuer les gens avant de les connaître »), Un taxi pour Tobrouk évoque sur le ton de la plaisanterie des thèmes délicats comme l’obéissance à une autorité aveugle, la fraternité entre les peuples, tout en se moquant ouvertement des règles et usages ridicules imposés par l’armée

Avec un budget limité, la production s’est déplacée jusqu’à Almeria en Espagne (l’Afrique du Nord en pleine décolonisation était trop risquée pour les assureurs) afin de profiter d’espaces désertiques sans sortir de l’Europe. Malgré des moyens réduits, l’équipe technique parvient à un résultat très convaincant, jusque dans les quelques séquences de combat, plutôt bien menées. Conscient des limites formelles imposées par la production, La Patellière s’est donc concentré sur le jeu de ses acteurs et sur les liens qui les unissent. La grande réussite du long-métrage tient effectivement dans cet esprit de franche camaraderie qui surgit en cours de projection, y compris entre les Français et leur prisonnier allemand. Glissant au passage quelques vérités sur la France de la collaboration, sur l’attentisme d’une large partie de la population ou encore sur l’héroïsme de pacotille mis en avant au moment de la Libération, le film de La Patellière n’a pas fait que des heureux au moment de sa sortie, notamment au siège de la Gaumont, bien embarrassée par la teneur antimilitariste de l’œuvre.

Toutefois, la présence au générique de Lino Ventura, alors en pleine ascension, ajouté aux réelles qualités du long-métrage ont permis au taxi d’arriver à bon port dans les salles françaises. Contre toute attente, ce petit film de guerre au ton iconoclaste a convaincu plus de 4 944 008 spectateurs, lui permettant d’être le quatrième plus gros succès de l’année 1961 dans l’hexagone et le premier d’origine française. Un score remarquable pour ce qui restera comme le meilleur film de son auteur et un jalon important dans la carrière de Michel Audiard.

Good warlike movie of a French unit stranded in Libya desert in the path of Nazi infantry

At the beginning there are some brief biographic remarks about the main characters . As a sergeant , Theo Dumas or Dudu , who is presented at the start of the film as a former boxing champion of Europe (Lino Ventura , he was actually champion of Europe of Greco-Roman wrestling in 1950) commands a group of French soldiers (Charles Aznavour , Maurice Biraud, and the Spanish German Cobos) escaped after destructing their unit . They then penetrate German lines going to El Alamein . The expedition must contend with warming desert , minefield , German patrols and a Nazi officer (Hardy Kruger) in the midst . The misfit group with a prisoner crosses the Libyan desert to rejoin his command after falling their regiment . Their objective is to avoid the Germans and somehow encounter Allied lines . As they travel through the desert , they find an oasis where is a German army and get oil , thanks they impersonate Nazis .

This is an enjoyable movie about friendship , warlike feats , courage and good feeling . Interesting screenplay by Michel Audiard and Denys de La Patellière based on a story by René Havard . The movie broke box office records after bringing in a lot of money at the box office during its opening weekend and was one of the top 5 grossing movie of its year (1961) in France . Extraordinary acting for all casting , as Lino Ventura plays a sergeant and boxer in civil life , he's an experienced Brigadier who fought in Norway (Narvik) and other European scenarios ; German Cobos as a tough soldier who wishes hard methods over the German prisoner ; Maurice Biraud as a doctor of the group ; the singer Charles Aznavour is a Jew-French and Hardy Kruger as an intelligent Nazi captain who lived longtime in Paris . The exciting story displays a quietly observant character studio and light critical remarks about the French people . It packs a great number of haunting black and white images by cameraman Marcel Grignon and appropriate musical score by George Garvarentz . This French/Spanish/West Germany co-production picture was well realized by Denys De La Patelliere (Rififi in Paris , Marco Polo) and helped by assistant director Pierre Granier-Deferre (Le Train) .

The story is proceeded during the African war , the events were the followings : Mussolini occupied Tobruk as part of his campaign to invade the Suez canal, but the British easily took it from him on January 21, 1941. Hitler sent Rommel and the Africa Korps to retake the city and after a siege of 242 days they entered the city in December 1941. In 1942, the British surrender the city because they needed troops to fight the Japanese and Rommel retook Tobruk in June 21, 1942. Montgomery launched a successful contra-offensive against the Germans that were defeated by Eight Army in the battle of El Alamein which occurred in July, 1942. It was not until November 13, 1942 that Montgomery and his Eight army were able to secure Tobruk once and for Allies . Other films dealing with the African campaign include : ¨Desert rats (Robert Wise)¨ , ¨Tobruk ( Arthur Hiller)¨, ¨Raid on Rommel (Henry Hathaway)¨, ¨Rats of Tobruk (Terence Young)¨, and ¨Battle El Alamein (Giorgo Ferroni)¨.

Story takes place during 1942 in the Libyan desert at the crucial battle in El Alamein, when the British finally defeated the German "Afrikakorps". But this is a French movie so it deals with the Free French troops who were fighting alongside the British.

The basic storyline is quite simple : during a raid on a German supply dump, the French CO gets killed and the remaining members of the squad have to make their way back to friendly lines. Along the way they lose their patrol car but then capture an enemy truck, together with a German captain (Hardy Krüger).

Lino Ventura, one of France's most famous actors, is the grumpy ex-prizefighter turned NCO (very close to his real-life personae). He was already a respected actor but this really launched him to French super-stardom. Also well-known singer Charles Aznavour co-stars, but movie's main reputation lies with its script and dialogues (a mix between comedy and tragedy) by Michel Audiard, who was the scriptwriter of countless other successful Frrench movie classics (usually starring JP Belmondo or Jean Gabin).

This war movie may not so be well known outside of France, but up to this day it remains a true French classic. French public TV choose to air 'Taxi to Tobruk" on May the 1st this year, an important holiday in France.

This film is simply one of the best I've ever seen about WW2. It shows, with few characters, few accurate words and in the overwhelming emptiness of the desert, the true face of war: total nonsense!

The plot, which puts 4 French soldiers in the situation of taking a German prisoner, together with his car, on a trip through the desert back to El-Alamein, is brilliantly written by Michel Audiard. The author shows us how enemies, being held away from fighting, can learn to progressively appreciate themselves... or not. Irony and emotion just stick together along the whole film to the end. True, human and disabused.

I don't have anything more to say. Or just one thing: it's the fourth time I watch that film, it's the fourth time I'm caught by it until the last second!

A really funny war movie and even today still worthwhile seeing. Tells a lot about the mentality of Germans and french...! Not only in the army but also about the people - even today. The 'movie-buffs' will know what I mean...a pity this film is far underrated and not very well known. Intense acting, riveting plot, keeps one glued to the story! Hardy Krueger and Lino Ventura are simply great actors! Hopefully these comments may change that the movie is better known in the future because it has all the chances to become a "war classic". Does anybody know if the film is available at least on (an European language version) VHS-video?

Un taxi pour Tobrouk was one of the very first war movies I watched as a child, and I was impressed with the depth of the characters that were portrayed in it. No stereotypes here; just a movie about an unlikely band of people, trying to survive in the dessert. One thing that I will never forget, (please do not count it as a spoiler!!!) is when the French soldiers discuss about what they should do with their prisoner, and they say that "you should kill them before you get the chance to know them". If that does not portrait the madness of war, then I wonder, what is? Others have already written a lot about the plot, so I will not go into details. All I can say is that it is bad that this movie is not available on a subtitled version, for all of us, the poor people who do not know French, to buy.

for its rare delicacy, for the performances, for the art to use stereotypes and the image of the other in war times.for a form of gentle grace, mark of inspired script, wise dialogs and great actors art. for the emotion of final. and, sure, for the virtue of profound different war film. because it is not about battles, heroism or victories but about the links between few different people , about fear and manner to discover, step by step, the other, in middle of desert. a film who can be classic, memorable or only beautiful. in fact, it is only touching without any sentimental crumb. and it is not a surprise. each character reflects specific human type. and the bitter skin of story is the perfect cloth for it.

TAXI FOR TOBRUK 1961

This World War Two film is set in North Africa during late summer 1942. The stars are, Lino Ventura, Maurice Biraud, German Cobos, Charles Aznavour and Hardy Kruger.

A group of Free French Commandos are making their way back to Allied lines after a raid on a German fuel depot. They end up stranded in the middle of nowhere after their truck is destroyed by a German aircraft. They decide to attempt to walk the several hundred miles to the coast. They have no food, and very little water.

As luck would have it, the Free French happen upon a small German patrol camped out for the night. They rush the Germans and kill all but the officer, Hardy Kruger. The French now have transport, water, food and a prisoner. They set off for El Alamein to hook up with the British forces. Over the radio they hear that the British have launched a counter attack, and the German and Italian forces are withdrawing. They now decide to head for Tobruk, figuring the British will be there by the time their group hits the coast.

The trip though is not without a series of hic-ups. The men need to take a long detour to avoid a large section of soft sand. The truck would not be able to cross the less than friendly terrain. The detour though would use up a fair portion of the remaining petrol. Kruger points out an oasis where the Germans have a fuel depot. Out of other options, the French decide to give it a go.

Ventura, a boxer in civilian life, gives the German, Kruger, a solid punch to the jaw, rendering him horizontal. The men then don a few German hats etc and pay a visit to said fuel dump. The visit is a success and the men score fuel and water. Off again across the desert for Tobruk they head.

Needless to say Kruger is not happy with his sore jaw once he comes to. There is another hic-up when the group is nearly blown to hell by a night-time air raid on a nearby German convoy. The truck becomes stuck in a hole and all are busy digging the vehicle out. Just as they finish, Kruger jumps in the driver's seat and heads off leaving the Frenchmen behind. He does return shortly, but this time he has all the weapons. The Free French are now the prisoners.

Of course this does not last long, as fatigue soon catches up with Kruger and sleep hits him. With the French back in charge it is back in the truck as a prisoner. Off for Tobruk again they head. Again there is a problem for them to overcome. There is a minefield they must navigate through. One of the Frenchmen treads on a mine and is seriously wounded.

With the wounded man in the back, they are now only 15 miles from Allied lines. Needless to say the bad luck continues when the vehicle runs into a British recon patrol. The British see Kruger wearing his German cap and open fire. All except Ventura are killed.The film then jumps to the victory parade in Paris after the war. Ventura is standing in the crowd thinking back to his experience in North Africa.

This is a pretty good film with nice work from the entire cast and crew. The film, made in Spain, feature several authentic German tanks and the Spanish (Merlin engine) version of a ME-109.
