Le film 99 francs réalisé par Jan Kounen est l’adaptation du livre autobiographique écrit par Frédéric Beigbeder qui dénonce les dérapages cyniques du monde de la pub dans la société de consommation et le fait que nos vies sont totalement régies par la pub.

 

 

Le film commence par : « Tout s’achète. L’amour, l’art, la planète Terre, vous, moi. Surtout moi. L’homme est un produit comme les autres. Je suis publicitaire. Je suis de ce qui vous fait rêver de ces choses que vous n’aurez jamais. Ciel toujours bleu, nanas jamais moches, bonheur parfait retouché sur Photoshop. Vous croyez que j’embelli le monde ? Perdu. Je le bousille. Tout est provisoire. L’amour, l’art, la planète Terre, vous, moi. Surtout moi. »

 

Puis après quelques minutes : « Quand, à force d’économies, vous réussissez à vous payer la bagnole de vos rêves… je l’aurai déjà démodée.… Je m’arrange toujours pour que vous soyez frustré… Je vous drogue à la nouveauté… il y a toujours une nouvelle nouveauté pour faire vieillir la précédente… Vous faire baver, tel est mon sacerdoce.

 

99 francs offre une description certes caricaturée, mais réaliste du milieu publicitaire, et analyse les dégât sur la société. Il montre que notre inconscient est rythmé par la publicité et montre par quels moyens et méthodes les publicitaires manipulent les consommateurs, afin de nous faire acheter des objets dont on n’a pas nécessairement besoin.

Born in Britain to Australian parents, Caroline Goodall is internationally known as a leading actress who has starred in some of the biggest blockbusters of the last fifteen years, including La liste de Schindler, Hook ou la revanche du Capitaine Crochet-Cliffhanger, traque au sommet-Harcèlement-Lame de fond and Princesse malgré elle.

She is a graduate of Bristol University where she gained a BA Hons.in Drama and English, and studied alongside other notable screenwriters such as Jeremy Brock (Mrs. Brown). As a writer, in addition to "The Bay of Silence" for Radiant Pictures, credits include screen adaptations of Rupert Thomson's "Dreams Of Leaving" for HKM Films.

 

A former member of The Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre of Great Britain, Caroline appeared extensively on stage before being chosen by Steven Spielberg to star in Hook ou la revanche du Capitaine Crochet (1991) in 1991. Since then, she has worked on film and TV projects in the USA, Canada, Europe and Australia, striking a balance between Independent and Studio films, as well as maintaining a TV presence in Britain and Australia. She was nominated for Best Actress by the Australian Film Institute in 1990 for Cassidy (1989) (TV) and again in 1995 for Hotel Sorrento (1995). 

 

There followed a Logie nomination for Best Actress for "A Difficult Woman" (1998) which also won best TV mini series at the New York Festival in 1998.She is married to Nicola Pecorini and has two children, Gemma and Leone. She is sister to producer Victoria Goodall, who is married to actor/director Dallas Campbell.

-The Danish school girls in the movie were meant to be French school girls in the original script. This change came about as a casting director who searched for French-speaking and -looking actresses met Danish actress Camilla Overbye Roos. The casting director wanted to cast her but she could not speak French. Overbye-Roos then suggested changing the French girls to Danish girls. The casting director asked her to find suitable Danish girls (which were found by contacting Danish exchange students and au-pair girls in America). Photos and screen test of the girls that were found were then sent to director Ridley Scott who approved the change.
